Fresh Regional Ingredients in Tenerife
From the Farm Straight to the Breakfast Buffet at Jardin de la Paz
Regional Organic Products in Tenerife: Sustainable Cuisine at Jardin de la Paz
Pink grapefruits, Amalfi lemons, purple cauliflower and aromatic avocados – organically grown fruits and vegetables full of flavour are among the special ingredients that make a true culinary holiday in Tenerife so unique. At Jardin de la Paz, we place great importance on high-quality food, regional producers and sustainable gastronomy. For us, a special holiday in Tenerife begins with authentic culinary experiences – fresh, seasonal and in harmony with nature.
For our chef Alexander Schell, it was therefore a wonderful discovery when he first came across the organic Finca Milagro Verde in nearby La Orotava. The finca represents sustainable agriculture in Tenerife, organic farming and the conscious use of natural resources. Surrounded by extraordinary and historic vegetable varieties, chickens, cats and countless plants, it is a place that truly reflects the authentic spirit of Tenerife.
Sustainable Agriculture in Tenerife: Permaculture with Passion
At an altitude of around 850 metres, Alexander and Isabel, together with their daughter Salome, are building an organic finca based on the principles of permaculture. Their goal is sustainable farming in the Canary Islands that keeps the soil fertile in the long term and produces high-quality food – entirely without chemical fertilisers or pesticides.
Unlike conventional farming, the soil is naturally regenerated through intelligent crop rotation. Light feeders such as lettuce alternate with heavy feeders like cabbage or zucchini. Where potatoes grow one year, pumpkins may flourish the next. Plants also support one another naturally: onions, for example, help protect nearby strawberries from pests. The result is organic fruits and vegetables rich in flavour and nutrients – an essential part of sustainable gastronomy in Tenerife.
Experience Authentic Tenerife: Regional Producers and Fresh Ingredients
A few years ago, the family took over the land near La Orotava and gradually transformed it by hand into fertile farmland. Supported by tree sponsorships, numerous fruit trees have already been planted and will provide even more regional fruits from Tenerife in the future.
The desire for natural food instead of industrial mass production, combined with Isabel’s expertise as a gardener, eventually brought the family to the Canary Islands. Today, what was once dry soil is becoming a flourishing landscape full of diversity – a beautiful example of ecological farming and sustainable travel in Tenerife.
For guests seeking a peaceful holiday away from mass tourism and wishing to experience the authentic side of Tenerife, these regional partnerships are among the details that make a stay truly special. At Jardin de la Paz, we see gastronomy as part of a slower, more mindful travel experience: fresh products, genuine quality and a conscious appreciation of food.
